I received an update from Caroline, the Principal of Kenya Fluorspar Primary School, about how they are doing with the new library now that it has been almost a month. Her letter will soon be scanned and uploaded onto the blog as well, but for now, here are some of the highlights:

Before the new library, there were only 1-2 lessons in the library per day. Now, there are 6-8 per day. On the weekends, there are now 6 lessons, whereas before there was only 1.

There has been a visible increase in enthusiasm during library classes and reading.

Fairy Tales and Fantasy are the most popular genres.

On the Kobos, the books read the most often are The Singers to the Town, Little Women, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, The Jungle Book, Dracula, and Aldreas Hope.

The library prefects are very engaged in keeping the new library clean with its original setup.

And, the most exciting news of all? The school has been so inspired that it has decided to hire a full time librarian to run the library, so that the resources are used to their full potential.
