Tomorrow we are going back to Lamu, to do a second book donation for Shella Primary School. We were so impressed with the results we received after the first donation in 2010, where their ranking went from 11th to 5th in their district, out of over 70 schools.

When I spent time with the students, especially a group of girls, I got to hear about what books they were enjoying, and what they thought was still missing from their library.

We are coming back tomorrow with those books, where we will also do a workshop with the students to teach them book care (especially how to cover the books) and label genres properly. As they don’t have a full time librarian, this is a very important skill to teach them.
