With every KEY library we work on, we always incorporate the parents as much as possible into the program implementation phase. The parents are important stakeholders for a school library, as they can both encourage their children to read, and help push the teachers towards incorporating the library into their lessons.
It is also important that they feel involved and consulted, which is why in every initial meeting I ask for their blessing for the project. Today I met with the parents of students at Iltital Primary School in the Mara to do just that. I spoke through a translator (as the parents mostly speak Maa), and described our program. Next time I am back, which will be to set up the library space, they will come and help, which is a fantastic way to introduce them to the resources.
