At Chebisian Primary School in Bomet County, the KEY library has become a powerful force for academic and personal transformation. Since its launch, students have grown in literacy, confidence, and digital fluency—developing the skills they need to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

A Chebisian student picks a book to read in his IKEA furnished KEY school library.
Fluency in both English and Swahili has notably improved. Learners now write with greater clarity, stronger vocabulary, and improved spelling. Through book reviews and composition writing, students demonstrate deeper understanding of what they read. Many now type and format their own work independently—a clear sign of digital growth and self-reliance.
The library is also a platform for student voice and leadership. Through debates, storytelling, and book talks, learners have built confidence in public speaking. Elections for the student Library Council provide a hands-on lesson in democracy and leadership development.
Books like Why? Encyclopedia by DK publisher, Healthy Diet by Mason Crest publisher, and Coding for Beginners: Using Python by Usborne directly support the curriculum, while interactive tools and educational games foster critical thinking and collaboration.
As Teacher Librarian Chrispian Bosuben shares:
“Many learners have improved in their writing—especially spelling, writing speed, and vocabulary. Their reading has also accelerated, and they now understand and enjoy what they read. Computer skills have grown significantly. At first, learners needed constant guidance, but now they type, format, and save work independently. Through book talks, debates, and storytelling, they have gained confidence and leadership. This library has truly impacted our school and community.
The Chebisian Library is more than a resource center. It’s a space where students are empowered to lead, learn, and grow..
