Anwa Academy – a primary school in the slums of Kibera, is one of our proudest projects. In 2010, 1000 books were donated to the school. Prior to the donation, the school didn’t even rank out of the over 1000 schools in the district. One year after the donation, they were 6th.
Through a book drive by Branksome Hall Girls School in Toronto, Canada, another 1000 books were raised and donated to Anwa this month. This now gives Anwa Academy one of the best stocked libraries in the area. It is our hope that the school will develop an exchange system with other schools in the area, where books are lent out to partner schools, and the children exchange letters to each other about the books they are reading.
